Chapter 5 – Tyrone

For the past week, whenever Tyrone felt a bit lost, he found
himself looking at the printout:

He was looking at it now.

Something about it grounded him (no pun intended). The
certainty of the numbers, he guessed. Knowing down to the gram what he was
composed of. It helped him come to terms with it, or as much as he could after
only week. All things considered, he thought he was handling finding out he was
some kind of sand golem pretty well. He’d been pretty upset when Dipper first
broke the news, but hey, he was also right; it was better than being paper.
Heck, how different was it really than being made of flesh?

Especially given the magic of the Pines Powder. He was technically made of dust and soil, but
by all outward indications, he was all squishy skin and scraggly hair. He and
Dipper had done a few basic tests, nothing invasive, and his body seemed to
react like a regular human body would: he needed to eat and breath, his muscles
and nerves flexed and felt like they always had, cut him and he bled (though
the blood had the faintest silvery highlight deep in the crimson that took him
a while to notice).

Scrape a sample off of him and put it under a microscope
though, and it looked like alumina and quartz. He was crystalline, through and
through, it was just that the Pines Powder replaced all the physical properties
of his minerals with the physical properties of Dipper. Tyrone could handle
that.

It was the other parts he was having trouble with. He knew
he was rocks now, but that didn’t change the fact that he also ‘knew’ he was
Dipper.
